SOUTH SIDE COBRAS WIN EIGHTH CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!
by King Cobra
12/14@1:02p
- Grogs get two early off of Cobra ace Josh Johnson...but that would be all. He dominated for six strong and the Cobra bullpen continued their mastery of the Grogs. Paul Konerko hit two big homers and Billy Wagner pitched a perfect ninth. Congrats to the Grogs on a great season...but after the thrilling come from behind miracle against the Doomsters, these Cobras weren't going to lose to anybody. Giddy up.

Finals, Game Three, Cobras Win 9-5, Lead Series 2-1
by Ghost Writer
12/14@12:46p
- Grogs jump out to 3-0 lead on Cobra starter Francisco Liriano and he only lasts four innings but the entire Cobra offense pitches in to win this one (five different players with rbi's and NINE different Cobras score)...and the South Side bullpen pitches five perfect innings to seal the deal.
|
Finals, Game One, Cobras Beat Grogs 7-1...Lead Series 1-0
by Ghost Writer
12/14@12:30p
- Cobra ace Josh Johnson pitches six strong innings against the Groggie murderers row and the South Side bullpen pitches three perfect innings to dominate game one. Choo and Barajas homer to provide all the offense for the snakes.

Game 6; Geneva advances as they win 6-4
by the Geneva Gazette
12/13@9:45a
- Entering this game, Geneva had decided to manage this more with an eye to winning game 7 than win it in 6. Geneva's best two releivers Benoit and Peralta were still exhausted from game 5. The Daemons had a lefty starter, perhaps the only Achilles Heel the Groggies have. BUT, the Grogs did have R.A. Dickey on the mound again. He gave up 4 runs in the first five innings. The Grogs did not pull him though. It was tied 4-4 on the strenght of Back to Back to Back homers by Tulowitzki, Buck, and Cruz. Dickey turned in scoreless 6th, 7th and 8th innings. The Grogs stuck with him, even after getting the lead in the 7th on Cruz's second homer and an insurance one by the bargain trade deadline pickup Hinske. The Grogs turned to ROOGY (right handed one out guy) in the 9th Uehara and he mowed the Daemons down, even the lefties. Geneva advances to its third finals appearance.
|
Game Four; Daemons even series as Ubaldo and Bullpen Scalp the Grogs 4-1
by the Geneva Gazette
12/13@9:06a
- A two run homer by Nick Swisher and 6 redemptive innings by Ubaldo Jiminez (after the game one shellacking) even the series with Geneva. The Groggies never seriously threatened a comeback in this series as Heyward and Ichiro continued to rake Geneva.
|
Game Three; Daemons get Knuckled Under by R.A. Dickey
by the Geneva Gazette
12/13@9:02a
- The Grogs have always had a tradition of Knukle Ball pitchers. Tim Wakefield probably spent most of his DTFB career in Geneva. However, even though he always seemed to overachieve in the regular season, he failed them in the playoffs, probably costing them the title with the Bonds lead juggernaut in season XXVI. R.A. Dickey's Grog Drinker Career will not be a mirror of that as he shuts out the Daemons for 8 innings. John Buck and Edwin Encarnacion each hit multiple run homers off of C.C. Sabathia to provide all the offense in the 5-1 win.
|
Game One; Grogs Build Early Lead and then hold on.
by Geneva Gazette
12/13@8:49a
- Geneva by the end of inning two had a 7-2 lead. (Buck 3 run homer provided the biggest part of this) They had ace Tim Stauffer on the mound. By the 7th inning they had a 9-2 lead. Therefore, with an eye to the rest of the series and Stauffer only at 83 pitches the Groggies pulled him. Afterall, all season long they had the best bullpen in the league. Well it almost backfired, Curtis Granderson in the 7th hit a Pinch Hit grand slam off of Sean Burnett to make it 9-8. Then the Groggies found someone in their bullpen who could get the Daemons out. Slaten and Benoit combined for two innings of hitless ball to make sure game one went to Geneva.

Game Five, Cobras Win 4-2, Doomsters Lead Series 3-2
by Ghost Writer
12/10@4:27p
- Nail biter. Francisco Liriano returned to make a strong start for the Cobras and turned a 3-2 lead over to the bullpen in the fifth inning. The Doomsters had scoring threats in every inning including the ninth. Billy Wagner was in and the Doomsters got two men on for lefty killer Kevin Youklis. Chad McWreath stuck with his hired gun and Youklis hammered a slicing fly ball to deep centerfield but Cobra CF Andres Torres made a season saving, diving catch to seal the victory for the South Side crew.
|
Game Four, Cobras Win 9-5, Doomsters Lead Series 3-1
by Ghost Writer
12/10@4:18p
- Cobra bats erupt to take a 9-0 lead but unbelievably the Doomsters had the tying run at the plate with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth. Billy Wagner came in and struck out three men in a row to close it for the Cobras.
|
Game Two, Doomsters Beat Cobras 8-6, Lead Series 2-0
by Ghost Writer
12/10@4:07p
- Same story as game one. Cobras jump out to early lead. This time by five runs, but Cobra starter Francisco Liriano fell apart against the powerful Doomster lineup and surrendered eight runs in a three inning span. Coco Crisp had a three run bomb that did serious damage to the Cobras and the Doomster bullpen shut the door again.

Grogs, not Cobras or Doomsters, Favorites to Win Championship
by King Cobra
12/02@9:05p
- Any team with a run differential like the Groggies have is a heavy favorite to win it all. So, DTFB fan, consider this my official position on the matter...and thank you for your support. Go "underdog" Cobras.

Finals, Game Four, Cobras Win 4-3, Lead Series 3-1
by Ghost Writer
12/14@12:56p
- Cobras race out to a two run lead on a two run homer by Choo. Grogs battle back with three solo homers by Buck, Bruce and Rodriguez and led 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth with their ace Stauffer tossing a two hitter...but he blew out his arm after walking Adrian Beltre and had to leave the game. This hurt manager Todd Vennis as he had a tired bullpen. Still, his limited relievers held the fort until the seventh when Andres Torres homered for the Cobras to tie the game. Then in the eighth, the snakes manufactured the go ahead run without a hit....via two walks and two sacrifice flies (the big one by Konerko). Billy Wagner came in and dominated the Grogs monster lefty pinch hitters and the Cobras win to put them on the brink of another championship.
|
Finals, Game Two, GrogDrinkers Beat Cobras 6-5 in Ten Innings, Series Even 1-1
by Ghost Writer
12/14@12:38p
- A real battle. Grogs jump out to 4-0 lead, manufacturing two in the second and a two-run bomb by Jay Bruce in the fourth. The Cobras tie it at four on a pinch hit two run homer by Jim Edmonds and another two run jack by Rod Barajas. The Grogs retook the lead with an RBI by Josh Hamilton in the 7th. The Cobras worked the based loaded in the ninth but manage only a single run as Todd wriggled his way out of real trouble with swift bullpen use. In the tenth, with Billy Wagner on the hill, Tulowitzki walked and a couple of singles scored the run. Grogs win thriller.
|
Game Five; Geneva Miracle? Wildest Game in DTFB Playoff HIstory? Maybe, but Grogs come home with 3-2 advantage.
by the Geneva Gazette
12/13@9:29a
- Geneva built a 5-1 early lead behind homers by Thome and Buck. The Daemons behind Suzuki and Heyward scored 4 in the 5th to take a 6-5 lead and drive Arroyo out early again. The Grogs tied it in the 6th on a bases loaded sac fly by A-Rod. The the offenses dried up for 3 innings. As the game entered extra innings the craziness began. - In the top of the 10th with Daemon stud lefty Kuo on the mound the Grogs, acting chiefly on a hunch left Jim Thome in to face him. Thome homered.
- The Daemons pushed a run across against Grog Closer Benoit, but Nelson Cruz (playing right only because Jay Bruce got hurt) threw out chase Utley at second.
- Cruz followed that assist with another as he nailed Stephen Drew at the plate on a Cairo double.
- The Grogs got a run across in the 12th on a Hamilton FC and were fortunate to have the depth advantage. They still had Darren Oliver in the pen and he manuevered through McCutchen, Heyward, Granderson, and Utley. Giving up only a double to Granderson.
|
Game Two; Lee stymies Grogs as Heyward, Carroll, and Suzuki provide Daemon offense in 11-3 rout
by Geneva Gazette
12/13@8:54a
- The Groggies feared the Daemon match up coming into this series,Cliff Lee vs. our strong left handed hitters. Lee did not dissappoint as he shut them down long enough for the Daemons to build a big lead off of Bronson Arroyo. The Groggie bullpen was hammered also.
|
Game Seven, Cobras Win 15-6, Win Series 4-3
by King Cobra
12/10@4:52p
- Doomsters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first...but the Cobras were not to be denied on this day. Not at home. Not after the last game. The reigning champs scored 14 unanswered runs to come all the way back from 0-3 to win the series. Wow.
|
Game Six, Cobras Win on Come-From-Behind Walkoff HR 8-7, Series Tied 3-3
by Ghost Writer
12/10@4:47p
- Back in the South Side, with their home crowd pulsating on every pitch The Cobras and Doomsters played a back and forth game for the ages. The Doomsters raced out to a 3-0 lead on a three run bomb by Wilson Betemit. The Cobras responded in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own and took the lead with three more in the bottom of the third. Leading 5-3 and with Josh Johnson on the mound, the Cobras couldn't hold off the Doomsters and they took a two run lead 7-5 in the sixth. The Cobras got one back in the bottom of the sixth. Then in the bottom of the eighth, the Cobras had one in and a man on second, Mark intentionally walked Hundley to bring up Billy Wagner and force him out of the game. Chad McWreath looked at his closer, saw the eye of the tiger, and left him in. He promptly struck out... and then shut down the mighty Doomster offense in the top of the ninth. Bottom of the ninth, Carl Crawford came to the plate against Carlos Marmol...first pitch....WHAM a homer. Cobras Win and send this series to a seventh game.
|
Game Three, Doomsters Beat Cobras 8-2, Lead Series 3-0
by Ghost Writer
12/10@4:10p
- All Doomsters. Never a close game. Doomsters on brink of sweep.
|
Game One, Doomsters Beat Cobras 6-3, Lead 1-0
by Ghost Writer
12/10@4:02p
- Cobras jump out to early lead but Doomster bats are too much. Votto and Morneau both homer, Travis Wood pitches six strong and the Doomster bullpen slams the door shut.
|
Tramplers lost to Daemons
by Tramplerman
12/06@12:59p
- Games 5 and 6 were big scoring games for the Daemons. The Trampler line up must have been gassed from the first four games. Dean has all the info...
